A Child at Elementary School Recess This observation is of a 10 year old male child during his lunch recess at an elementary school located in the South Bay area. The student participates in a day treatment program for children with emotional/social difficulties. The length of this observation was approximately forty five minutes. For the purpose of confidentiality this student will be referred to as John. In the first section of this observational analysis a brief description of the program which John participates in will be given. This will be followed by an analysis of Johns activities during the observation. Observation The day treatment program John participates in is located on the campus of a public elementary†¦show more content†¦At this point John jumped off of the bars and ran back to where he had begun, and proceeded to attempt crossing the bars again and made it. John went back to the parallel bars where he proceeded to swing, jumping off periodically. At one point John attempted to gain the staffs attention to watch what he could do on the bars; John swung himself repeatedly and then let one hand go, this spun him to one side where another parallel bar was located, which John grabbed onto. The staff shouted good job John, which seemed to motivate John to repeat this trick a few more times. After playing on the bars for a while longer, John went over to two other peers from his class who were engaging in pretend play. These children appeared to be playing a game of army combat, as they were running about shooting each other. John ran around the play area attempting to shoot his peers with his machine gun, and ended when they began pretending to be in hand-to-hand combat . At this point this point the staff directed the students not to get too physical, and the small group of children ran off. John played with this group for a while longer, as they would shoot at each other periodically and ran around the play area. John disengaged himself from playing with this group as he was distracted by a nearby puddle of water. John jumped over the puddle, and was prompted by the staff not to step in the water. Bullying Between School Students Bullying in the United States school systems has become a huge problem for police and other law enforcement agencies, since more and more students are communicating frequently through cell phones and Social Media. According to OC Human Relations (OCHR) 1 it is estimated that, American schools harbor approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million victims. The OCHR also includes statistics of how bullying is affecting schools and students. OCHR states that about 15% of students absences are due to fear of being bullied by other classmates. Some students are afraid to talk about bullying but 71% of students reported incidents of bullying causing problems at their schools. Although 80% of students feel bad for the victims, but students say that only sometimes they actually try to prevent bullying. OCHR talks about how teachers and school administration address bullying in their schools. Large amount of victims affected by bullying claim that teachers, and other staff members, at schools didn’t do much, if anything, to help stop the bullies. Every afternoon, I had the same hope: that several hours of solitude would help me figure out who I was and what I wanted to become. My time at the Boys Academy had ended last spring, and Father had made me hold off on enrolling at the University of Virginia until the war had ended. Since then, I’d been curiously stuck in the in-between. I was no longer a boy, not quite a man, and utterly unsure of what to do with myself. The worst part was that I had no one to talk to. A tall man, Father carried himself with so much force and presence that he easily intimidated those who crossed his path. His face was lined with wrinkles that only added to his authority, and he wore a formal morning coat, despite the heat. â€Å"Stefan?† Father called, glancing around the stalls. Even though he’d lived at Veritas for years, he’d probably only been in the stable a few times, preferring to have his horses prepared and brought straight to the door. I ducked out of Mezzanotte’s stall. Father picked his way toward the back of the stable. His eyes flicked over me, and I felt suddenly embarrassed for him to see me caked in sweat and dirt. â€Å"We have stable boys for a reason, son.† â€Å"I know,† I said, feeling as though I’d disappointed him. â€Å"There’s a time and a place for having fun with horses. But then there’s the point when it’s time for a boy to stop playing and become a man.† Father hit Mezzanotte on the flanks, hard. She snorted and took a step back. I clenched my jaw, waiting for him to tell me about how, when he was my age, he’d moved to Virginia from Italy with only the clothes on his back. How he’d fought and bargained to build a tiny, one-acre plot of land into what was now the two hundred acres of Veritas Estate. How he’d named it that because veritas was Latin for truth, because he’d learned that as long as a man because he’d learned that as long as a man searched for truth and fought deception, he didn’t need anything else in life. She was a nondescript girl with mousy blond hair and brown eyes; in every memory I held of her, she wore a brown dress. The research showed that with the absence of the myostatin protein the muscle tissue did not have anything to regulate the size; therefore muscle tissue was extremely larger.
